Demented fun …
A REVIEW
We had the chance to see Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn on Thursday, 13 February 2020, not really knowing what to expect. It was the first time the Birds had been shown since the 2002-2003 television series.
Overall, it was a fine experience, though we didn’t give it a perfect 10 because of various nitpicky stuff, especially with costuming. We were glad to see Margot Robbie return as Harley Quinn, though we would have liked to have heard more of the Brooklyn accent that the character is known for.
That said, this ain’t the 1966 Batman series, let alone The Animated Series of the 1990s. Your best bet is to take this on its own terms, and you’ll be in for a seriously demented time in the best sense of the word. The movie is from Harley Quinn’s own perspective, so just sit back and enjoy the ride. The fight scenes are superb, and the film locales are top notch, too.
And it doesn’t hurt that we have two of the NASTIEST villains in the entire Bat universe, Black Mask and Victor Zsasz. It might seem that their portrayal might be one-dimensional, but in fact, these character are truly mean.
Even if this movie isn’t the success that 2019’s Joker movie is, it is definitely worth watching!
