They have birthdays this week!!!
Once again, Lee Meriwether celebrates another birthday!!! Born 27 May 1935 in San Francisco, she was crowned as Miss America for 1955. That led to her acting career which, by fall 1965, had led to a recurring guest role as Joanna Lauren on The FBI (which ran from 1965 to 1974).
Not long after that , Batman made its debut in January 1966. At the end of production for the first season, work started on the movie that was initially supposed to introduce the series. Because ABC was in dire straits by December 1965, Batman‘s debut was moved up to January instead of September 1966.
Julie Newmar would play Catwoman for the first two seasons, but she was unavailable for the movie that spring of 1966. Enter Ms. Meriwether, who brought her own special charm to the role. In the 1966-1967 season, she had a lead role in the science fiction series The Time Tunnel, and would also make a guest appearance—in another role—on Batman.
Lee’s best-known role, however was as the female lead in the 1973-1980 CBS series Barnaby Jones, which starred Buddy Ebsen as the older detective who drank milk.
In more recent years, Lee has appeared at various comic cons and sci-fi festivals. We had the chance to meet her face-to-face in 2006 (Detroit) and in 2011 (New Jersey). Truly a sweet lady, we wish her the best on this day!!!
Sharyn Wynters
Sharyn Wynters, who played Catwoman’s moll Eenie in late 1966 also had a birthday on Sunday. Born in Philadelphia, her acting career is not as extensive as Lee Meriwether’s, but she made a memorable appearance on the Batman series. She is a Facebook presence, and is an advocate for natural healing after having had health problems in her 20s.
We wish both ladies the best!!!
