The femme fatale who started it all
Born: 16 August 1933 in Los Angeles, California, USA as Julia Chalene Newmeyer
The first-ever live action Catwoman was already an acting veteran when she got the call for the role that made her famous. The Los Angeles native had already worked the stage in New York, as well as movies and television in Hollywood, beginning in 1952.
But it was her role in Batman that really cemented her fame. Her episodes were, and are, a highlight of the series, and she had a special chemistry with series star Adam West.
Julie Newmar’s career has continued, and in recent years, has done voice-over work in different Batman-related projects, the last being Batman vs. Two Face (2017), Adam West’s final performance.
She has also attended comic cons in the 2000s, but that has trailed off due to health concerns. Julie remains a presence on Facebook, and is much loved to this day.
