The Catwoman from the 1966 Batman movie turns 87!!!
Lee Meriwether, who played the Feline Fatale in the 1966 Batman movie, has another birthday today!!!
Born 27 May 1935 in San Francisco, she already had the honor of being crowned Miss America for 1955 and acting credits, including a memorable turn as Inspector Lew Erskine’s girlfriend in The FBI when she stood in for Julie Newmar when the motion picture began production around the end of March 1966, right at the end of Season 1. She was no Julie Newmar.
And she didn’t have to be.
Lee’s performance was all her own, and she clearly brought her own special qualities to the role. And as for Catwoman herself, 1966 was truly a remarkable year. The Feline Fatale had been absent from the comics for 12 years, and then we had not just one, but two actresses portray her in a live-action setting.
We’ve had the chance to meet her over the years, from 2006 to 2011, and she has always been a delight. Whatever the case, we wish her many more years, and all the best!!!
