Julie Newmar as the Catwoman
What a long, interesting trip it’s been!!!
The comic book Batman #1 made its debut on 24 April 1940. That comic marked the introduction of Selina Kyle, AKA Catwoman (as well as The Joker). Eighty-five years later, she remains a formidable presence in the comic book world. Her path has not always been easy, as she was banished from the comics from 1954 to 1966 because of concerns that her presence was unhealthy. It took the 1966 Batman TV series and then the Lois Lane comic later that year that would revive her character.
And she has never left us.
My interest in the Feline Fatale began 23 years ago when I was having hard times in the Rochester, New York metro area. The 1966 series was airing on TV Land, and that led me to find out what was going on with the character in the comics. I found the second series of her comic book series, the one that basically rebooted the character into more of an anti-hero, as opposed to being a criminal.
Since 2002, Catwoman has made more appearances in both the comics and in media. Indeed, her present comic book series is going strong. And we look forward to seeing what the future brings to the Feline Fatale!!!
