The voice of Catwoman, and the longest-running one, too!

Adrienne Barbeau began her performing career in her native California in 1963. She made her Broadway debut in the original run of Fiddler on the Roof. Beatrice Arthur, who played Yente the Matchmaker, and Ms. Barbeau would work together years later in the CBS television comedy Maude. That series, which first aired in 1972, marked Ms. Barbeau’s debut on national television. By this time, the actress was nominated for a Tony award for her portrayal of Rizzo in the original run of Grease. That musical debuted in February 1972, just months before Maude debuted.

Maude ran on CBS from 1972 to 1978. She then starred in several horror films, some directed by then-husband John Carpenter (The Fog, Escape From New York, Swamp Thing and Creepshow). Ms. Barbeau has also continued her stage work, even returning to Fiddler On The Roof (as Tevye’s wife). She is one busy performer, as she has had a weekly radio spot on KABC in Los Angeles, a continuing film career and a nightclub career!

However, she holds a special place in the world of the Feline Fatale, because she has provided the voice of Catwoman and Selina Kyle in Batman: The Animated Series (B:TAS) and in Batman: Gotham Knights. Since then, she has provided the voice of Catwoman in the Web-based ‘toon, Gotham Girls, from its beginning in 2002 to the present. She has played the Feline Fatale longer than any other actress, in the same way that other performers have done with their B:TAS respective roles (Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Efrem Zimbalist Jr. as Alfred Pennyworth).

And she is one very sweet lady!
