Nineteen eighty-nine marked the first time that Catwoman received her own comic book series. Her character had been around for nearly a half century and she remained a prominent figure.
While her first outing consisted of only four issues, the second comic book series that was published from 1993 to 2001 was a very important work. Thanks to Jim Balent, the Feline Fatale received a major signature look of a purple catsuit complete with black boots and a cowl with cat ears.
The third series, published between 2001 and 2008 (with an issue in 2010), established her as more of an anti-hero. Now in her sixth series of comics, and approaching her 80th anniversary, Selina Kyle and Catwoman still remain a strong presence in the comic book world.
